Big Lonely Doug – I enjoyed learning a little bit about the logging industry in BC, leading up to the time that this Douglas Fir (not even a real Fir!?) was marked with a green ribbon (2011). It was also interesting to learn more about old-growth trees and details about the battle between activists and loggers. There are still protests going on as activists try to save the old-growth forests from being cut down.
On a trip to Vancouver Island with Aidan, we were so close to this tree as we were in Avatar Grove. However, we didn’t have enough time and it was basically dark out so I wanted to leave. Just another reason to return now that I have read this book.
