Wow this book was info-packed. I would read it a second time and learn new things.
If you read this book and don’t think that plants are incredibly intelligent – yes, I said intelligent – then I would tell you to re-read the book and pay more attention.
Two interesting things I learned:
1) plants send warning signals to neighbouring plants when they are being attacked (i.e. by a caterpillar) and those plants increase their defenses to actually deter those caterpillars!
2) plants exposed to stressful environments (i.e. drought) will pass adaptive traits to their offspring so that the next generation will be better able to withstand those environments!
